Cores:
Acromantula Hair Acromantula are a species of giant spider, native to the rainforests of Southeast Asia, particularly Borneo. Acromantulas are believed to be a wizard-bred species, designed to guard dwellings or treasure hoards, and were first created before the Ban on Experimental Breeding in 1965. These giant spiders, with a taste for human flesh, were first spotted in 1794.This core tends to be one that a fair amount of dark wizards have. It works well with darker magics.
Augury Beak Fragment
Augurys, or Irish phoenixes, their cries were once thought to signify an upcoming death. This was found untrue as they only cry when it is about to rain. These cores work well for those with a gift for divination or weather charms.
Basilisk Bone
As it is illegal to bread Basilisk it is rare that one will find a live one to get wand making material off of. The bones of a Basilisk are near as rare but can be found. Those with a cunning nature are usually drawn to a Basilisk Bone core wand. These wand are good for those who are excel in Defense against the Dark Arts.
Billywig Wings
Billywig are an insect native to Australia. Their sting can cause giddiness and levitation. However to many stings can cause prolonged levitation. The nature of the animal makes this core an excellent one for those good at Charms.
Boggart Heartstrings
Though no one knows what a Boggart really looks like it is known where they inhabit. The heart string of such a creature makes perfect wand cores for those who excel in Transfiguration.
Bowtruckle Splinter
These creatures protect trees in forests all over Europe. One needs to offer them tree lice or fairy eggs to get wood or leaves from their trees. If a wandmaker is on especially good terms with a Bowtruckle they may give then a splinter from their wood like bodies. These make spectacular cores for wands meant for those who adore Herbology.
Bundimun Acid
In a short time a few Bundimun can completely destroy a home. It is often best to call the Ministry to get ride of them because if one gets to close they will spit acid. This acid can be crystallized and used as a wand core. They make great cores for those who seek a future in Potions.
Centaur Hair
These are rare cores as Centaur are known for their tolerance of wizards. A Centaur hair core is once of great power but can be extremely fickle. These cores are best for people with a mellow temperament and chose those good in Runes and Astrology.
Chimera Hair/Scale
These creatures are native to Greece and are considered VERY dangerous. Only one has ever been recorded killed by a wizard. Not to say these cores are rare. There is many an adventure that can find tufts of the hair or sluffed off scales. Wands with this core have a great deal of raw power but are difficult to control. It take a person with a strong spirit to have a wand with such a core. Often those good at Flying will have a Chimera core.
Chizpurfle Fang
A magical parasite that is quite small they will attack magical items. A core of this nature is not very desirable but there are a few out there. They are usually owned by tricksters of those good at Potions.
Clabbert Pustule/Horn
A creature mainly found in America it resembles a cross between a frog and a monkey. They had a large red pustule on it’s forehead that flashes red when it senses danger. It is a graceful creature that dwells in trees. A wand with a Pustule core is good for DADA while the Horn is good for those in the study of Herbology.
Crup Tail Tip
A wizard-bred dog that strongly resembles a Jack Russell Terrier, except that a Crup has a forked tail. They are wizard-bred dogs, since they are extremely loyal to wizards and ferocious toward Muggles. They will eat almost anything. Crup owners are required by law to remove the tail of the animal when it is six to eight weeks old, using a painless Severing Charm in case they are noticed by Muggles. This is where wandmakers get the tail tips for wand cores. Due to their dislike of muggles these cores usually chose those with a lean toward the dark arts.
Dementor Skin
This is a banned core. Any wizard caught with this core in their wand will have to taken away and destroyed. A wand with such a core can cast only dark magic and can NEVER EVER cast the Patronus charm
Demiguise Hair
Demiguise are a Far East animal that resembles an ape. It takes a trained hunter to find this animal as it can become invisible. The pelts are often used for invisibility cloaks. It’s silky hair makes wonderful cores for those with strength in Transfiguration.
Diricawl Feather
This creature is known as the Dodo to muggles. Muggles think they have hunted this animal to extinction. In reality the Diricawl can disappear and reappear in another place when is senses danger. This makes the core good for Charms.
Doxy Wing/Venom/Hair/Teeth
Doxy are small fairy like creatures that have a foul temperament. Their teeth are razor sharp and good for DADA in the core of a wand. The hair is black and thick the raw power of it often chooses dark wizards. The Venom they use to poison can be crystallized and placed in a core. These core excel at Potions. The Doxies shiny beetle like wings are good for those who are good at flying.
Dragon Heartstring/Hide/ Horn Shaving/Claw Shaving/Blood/Tooth/Scale
There are many different kind of dragons and sometimes the wand maker will tell you the type of dragon the material came from. These dragons are Antipodean Opaleye, Chinese Fireball, Common Welsh Green, Hebridean Black, Hungarian Horntail, Norwegian Ridgeback, Peruvian Vipertooth, Romanian Longhorn Swedish Short-Snout and
Ukrainian Ironbelly. Each dragon and part has varied properties that add to a wand.
Antipodean Opaleye - The Antipodean Opaleye is a breed of Dragon native to New Zealand, although it has been known to migrate to Australia in search of territory. It resides in valleys, which is unusual as dragons typically reside on mountains. It is generally considered one of the most beautiful dragons with pearly scales that line its body, and glittering multi-coloured eyes that have no pupils. The Opaleye's eggs are pale grey and been known to be mistaken by Muggles as fossils. Its flame is vivid red, and the Opaleye is not particularly aggressive, rarely killing unless it is hungry. Its prey of choice is sheep, but it has been known to attack larger animals. All parts of this dragon do well for wand cores meant for someone good at Astronomy
Chinese Fireball
The Chinese Fireball, also known as the Liondragon, is a dragon native to China. The Fireball is scarlet and smooth scaled with a fringe of golden spikes around its face. The Fireball's snout is stubby, and it has protruding eyes. Its name is derived from the mushroom-shaped flame that is emitted through its nostrils when angered. The Chinese Fireball breed of dragons generally yield females that are larger than males. The eggs of the Chinese Fireball are crimson, speckled with gold, and the shells are prized by Chinese Wizards. Its diet consists of most mammals, usually prefering pigs and deer. Unlike other dragons, the Fireball is more tolerant of its own kind, and will sometimes consent to sharing its territory with two other dragons. All parts of this dragon do well for wands cores meant for someone good at Charms.
Common Welsh Green, or just Welsh Green, dragon is a native of Wales. It nests in the higher mountains regions where a reservation has been set up for it. This dragon is a relatively subdued breed. It prefers to prey mainly on sheep and other small mammals and to avoid human contact altogether. The Welsh Green's roar is rather distinctive and somewhat melodious and it issues its fire in narrow jets. The eggs of the Common Welsh Green are earthy brown, flecked with green. All parts of this dragon do well for wands cores meant for someone good at Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Hebridean Black is a dragon native to the Hebrides Islands of Scotland. It has dark rough scales, ridges along its back, and its tail is tipped with an arrow-shaped spike. The Hebridean Black can grow up to thirty feet long, and has bright purple eyes. Its favorite food is deer, although it has been known to carry off cows and large deer. More aggressive than the other dragon native to the British Isles. The Hebridean Black requires a territory of one hundred square mile each. The MacFusty clan take responsibility for the dragons, and have done for centuries. All parts of this dragon do well for wands cores meant for someone good at Herbology.
Hungarian Horntail is a dragon native to Hungary and is considered to be the most dangerous dragon breed. It has black scales, a spiked tail, and bronze horns protruding from its head. It has yellow eyes with vertical pupils. Its roar is a yowling, screeching scream, and its flame can reach to about fifty feet. The Horntail's foods of choice include cattle, sheep, and goat. Its eggs are cement-coloured with very hard shells. Horntails are also known for being one of the most vicious breeds of dragon. All parts of this dragon do well for wands cores meant for someone good at Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Norwegian Ridgeback is a dragon native to Norway, and its habitat is the Northern mountains. It resembles the Hungarian Horntail, except for its black ridges on its back, the browner texture in its scales, and its less hostile attitude. It has venomous fangs, and its food of choice is large mammals, including water mammals which is unusual for a dragon. Its eggs are black, and young Ridgebacks develop the ability to shoot flame earlier than any other breeds (around one to three months). Female Ridgebacks are generally more ferocious than the males. All parts of this dragon do well for wands cores meant for someone good at Potions.
The Peruvian Vipertooth is a dragon native to eastern and north-eastern Peru. Its scales are smooth and copper-coloured. It also has black ridge-markings and short horns on its head. Like the Norwegian Ridgeback, its fangs are venomous. It is the smallest known breed of dragon, about fifteen feet (five metres) long and able to conceal itself well from Muggles. The Vipertooth feeds on goats and cows, but is notorious for its particular craving for humans. In the late 19th century, Vipertooth numbers once went on an alarming increase and became a serious threat to wizards and Muggles alike. The International Confederation of Wizards was forced to send an extermination squad in to reduce the Vipertooth population. Romanian Longhorn is a dragon native to Romania. Its habitat is the mountains. The Romanian Longhorn has dark green scales, and two long, glittering golden horns. The Longhorn prefers to gore its prey with its horns before roasting it. The horns of the Longhorn, when powdered, are highly prized as a potion ingredient, and is a Class B Tradeable Material. The native territory of the Longhorn has become home to the world's largest and most important dragon reservation. In recent years, the Longhorn has undergone an intensive breeding program after the numbers of the creatures fell low due to the demand for its horn. All parts of this dragon do well for wands cores meant for someone good at Potions.
Swedish Short-Snout is a dragon native to Sweden. Its habitat is wild, uninhabited areas, mostly the northern mountains of Sweden. Its scales are silvery blue, and its powerful flame is also a brilliant blue color - and hot enough to reduce timber and bone to ashes in seconds. Its attractive skin is much sought after for the making of gloves and shields. Since it rarely comes into contact with humans, the Short-Snout has less deaths to its name than most dragons. All parts of this dragon do well for wands cores meant for someone good at Transfiguration.
Ukrainian Ironbelly is a dragon native to Ukraine. It is metallic grey, with long talons and rough scales. It is the largest breed of dragon which reaches up to six tons, and its eyes are deep red. Sometimes the eyes seem to be the same color as his body, this is because a protection scale. Rotund and slower in flight than other dragons, the Ironbelly is nevertheless extremely dangerous, capable of crushing dwellings on which it lands. Ironbellies have been subject to constant observation by the Ukrainian wizarding authorities ever since an Ironbelly carried off a sailing boat from the Black Sea in 1799. Thankfully, the boat was empty at the time. All parts of this dragon do well for wands cores meant for someone good at Divination.
Dugbog Hide
A creature that lives in marshes and resembles a piece of dead wood. It’s paws are finned letting it glide through the water. It mainly eats small animals but will bite the ankle if wizards and muggles who venture into their habitat. Dugbog are known for feasting on Mandrake and cause be a headache for many a Mandrake grower. Those who do well in Care of Magical creatures will sometimes have this as a core.
ErklingTooth
They are a elflike creature who tend to eat children. Erkling are found in Germany who’s Ministry keeps them in check. Erkling are vile creatures and wand cores made from their teeth are only good for the dark arts.
Erumpent hide
And African creature who resemble a Rhino their hide repels most curses and charms. This makes cores made from their hide excellent for Defense Against the Dark Arts wands.
Fairy Wing/Fairy Larvae Silk
These vain creatures often let wizards keep them as a sort of decorative pet. They can lay up to 500 eggs at a time on the underside of leaves. Due to the fact they allow wizards to keep them around these are fairly common cores. The light and airy wings are good for Charms and Flying while the Larvae Silk does well for Divination.
Fire Crab Jewel Fragment
Fire crab is a large, tortoise-like creatures native to the island of Fiji. They have six legs, and a heavily jeweled shell. It is able to defend itself by shooting flames from its rear end when it is attacked. The fire crab is a protected specie. Muggles hunt them for their jewels while wizard prize the shells for caldrons. A core made with a fragment of a jewel from it’s shell is full of raw magic and takes a talented wizard to master it. The core is good for all magic fields.
Flesh Eating Slug Slime
Flesh-Eating Slug is a magical creature very similar to its namesake, the common garden slug. Many students fear these slugs and the Hogwarts Caretaker often has issue with them in the vegetable garden. Their slime is an unusual core for a wand and it’s properties are relatively unknown.
Flobberworm Mucus
A ten inch brown herbivore this worm is consider totally harmless by the Ministry. The mucus is also used to thicken potions as well as in a few wand cores. Those of a gentle passive nature do well with cores made of this mucus.
Fwooper Feather
Fwooper is a magical African bird with brightly-coloured feathers, which can include orange, pink, lime green and yellow. Listening to the Fwooper's song will drive the listener insane, so each bird must be sold with a Silencing Charm placed on it. The Charm has to be reinforced monthly, and a license is required to own one of the birds. Their feathers are used for quills as well as wand cores. Cores made from these feathers are good for Charms and usually bond to those with a dramatic tendency.
Ghoul Slime
Ghoul is an ugly creature that resembles a slimy, buck-toothed ogre. They tend to live in the attics or barns of wizards and witches. They are relatively harmless creatures and are just seen as nuisances because of the noise they make. They are relatively dimwitted, and live off of bugs and other household pests. At most, they will groan and throw objects. There isn’t much call for this wand core. Though the few there are tend to go to those who do well in Care for Magical Creatures.
Giant Squid Ink
Giant Squid is a huge creature that lives in the lake at Hogwarts. It is semi-sentient and not very dangerous. If fact it has been known to rescue first years that fall into the lake during the first year boat trip to Hogwarts Castle for the Sorting ceremony. The Giant Squid is also said to accompany students during their swim in the Hogwarts Lake. The ink is given every year freely by the squid and is a fairly common core. Hufflepuff often bond to this core.
Glumbumble Treacle
Glumbumble, a grey, furry, flying insect, produces treacle that induces melancholy. The treacle is used as an antidote to the hysteria caused by eating Alihotsy leaves. Glumbumbles nest in dark and secluded places and feed on nettles. The Treacle usually makes and unsuitable core but combined with the right wood can make a powerful wand.
Gnome Hide
gnome is a common magical creature which infests the gardens of wizarding households. It looks roughly like a potato with legs. It does not look anything like the garden gnomes of Muggles. These cores bond to those good in Herbology.
Griffin Feather/Hair
Griffin originated in Greece. It has the front legs, wings and head of a giant eagle, and the body and hind legs of a lion. Griffins are often used by Wizards as guards, and are known as fierce creatures. However, despite this, skilled wizards have been able to befriend them. Like sphinxes griffins are used by wizards who need treasure guarding. Both cores tend to gravitate toward Griffyndors and those strong of heart.
Grindylow Teeth/Horn
Grindylow is a pale green underwater creature that live in the weed beds at the bottom of lakes in Great Britain and Ireland. It has green teeth and pointy horns and long, strong fingers they use to pull prey into the water. They are violent and aggressive towards wizards and witches and Muggles. Merpeople have been known to domesticate them and keep them as pets. Grindylows inhabit Hogwarts Lake at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The trick to combating them is to break their grip; their abnormally long fingers are strong but very brittle. They are not really a threat, but they do eat some humans, which makes them Dark Creatures. They do not eat humans often because it is not the correct diet for them, they mostly eat fish, algae, and small sea creatures. These cores tend to bond to those of Slytherin.
Hinkypunk Crystalized Smoke
Hinkypunk is a small, one-legged creature which appears as though it were made of wisps of smoke. It likes to lead travelers off the track at night and into bog. Tricksters often get this as a core in their wands.
Hippocampus Hair/Scale
Native to Greece, the Hippocampus is a beast with the head and forequarters of a horse, and the tail and hindquarters of a giant fish. Although it is generally found in the Mediterranean, a blue roan specimen was caught off the coast of Scotland and domesticated. The core is good for Transfiguration.
Hippogriff Feather/Talon
Hippogriff is a magical creature that has the front legs, wings, and head of a giant eagle and the body, hind legs and tail of a horse. It is very similar to another mythical creature, the Griffin, with the horse rear replacing the lion rear. Hippogriffs have cruel, steel-coloured beaks and large, brilliantly orange eyes. The talons on their front legs are half a foot long and appear deadly. If proper etiquette is followed a wizard can tame a Hippogriff. These cores are fairly common as there is a herd of them at Hogwarts. They are very powerful and do well in all magical fields.
Horklump Bristle
Horklump resembles a fleshy pink mushroom covered in black bristles. Originally native to Scandinavia, the Horklump is now found throughout Europe. They use sinewy tentacles to root around in the earth for their desired food, earthworms. They are fast breeders, and can cover an average garden in a matter of days. This core works well for those good in Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures.
Imp Hide
Found only in Britain and Ireland, the Imp is a magical creature often confused with the Pixie. They are of similar height, between six to eight inches, but that is where the physical similarities end. The Imp cannot fly like the Pixie, nor is it as brightly colored.
Imps make their home in marshland, where they indulge their slapstick sense of humor by pushing and tripping the unwary. The Imps diet consists mainly of insects. Pranksters and those who are jovial often have this core.
Jarvey Hair
Jarvey resembles an overgrown ferret, and is commonly found in Britain, Ireland, and North America. The Jarvey is capable of Human speech, although true conversation with a Jarvey is impossible. The creature uses short, usually rude, statements and phrases in an almost constant stream. These cores are rather uncommon as their magic can be rather violent.
Jobberknoll Feather
Jobberknoll is a small, blue speckled bird that never makes any noise until the moment before it dies. It then lets out a long scream, which consists of every sound it ever heard backwards. Jobberknoll feathers are used in Truth Serums and Memory Potions. The cores work well for those inclined to Potions.
Kappa Water/Scale
Kappa is a Japanese water demon. It resembles a scale-covered monkey with webbed hands and a water-filled depression on top of its head. The water in this hollow is the source of the creature's strength. They live in shallow water and prey on human blood. They will kill anyone who wanders into their ponds or rivers. Being such an evil creature these cores tend toward those with a wicked nature.
Kelpie Hair
Kelpie is a water demon native to Britain and Ireland. Able to take any form, they usually take the form of a horse with a bullrush mane. After luring unwary travelers onto their backs, they drag them underwater and eat them, allowing the entrails to float to the surface of the water. This core also tends toward the wicked who are good at Transfiguration.
Knarl Quill
Knarl is a creature that greatly resembles a hedgehog. They are highly suspicious creatures and believe that any food left out for them is a lure for a trap. Knarls will usually go berserk if they see an attempt to poison them, causing damage to a garden. Cores of this nature tend to bond to Hufflepuffs and those good at Herbology
Kneazle Fur
Kneazle is a magical creature, similar to a cat in appearance. They have spotted, speckled or flecked fur, large ears and a lightly plumed tail, like a lion. They make excellent pets or even magical familiars if they like a witch or wizard. They are very intelligent, independent and occasionally aggressive, and have an uncanny ability to detect suspicious and distrustful people. They can also safely guide their owner home. These cores tend to chose those of Gryffindor House.
Leprechaun Hair
Leprechaun is a mischievous magical creature, although it is not malicious. They have a reputation as pranksters, but have never inflicted lasting damage on a Human. Native only to Ireland, they are capable of speech. These cores bond to tricksters and those good at Charms.
Lethifold Hide
Lethifold (also known as a Living Shroud) is a carnivorous and highly dangerous magical creature, and very similar to a Dementor. Its appearance resembles that of a black cloak roughly half an inch thick, although it gets thicker if the Lethifold has recently digested a victim. It glides along the ground and other surfaces in an unknown form of locomotion in search of its prey, humans. It attacks its prey at night, when the target is asleep, and suffocates and digests it in its bed. The only form of protection against a Lethifold is a Patronus. Other spells such as Stupefy will not work. The Lethifold is a very rare species, and can only be found in the tropics. These cores are banned because of the evil it can infect the wielder with.
Lobalug Venom
Lobalug is an aquatic creature found at the bottom of the North Sea. It is a simple creature, ten inches long comprising a rubbery spout and a venom sac. The Lobalug uses its venom sac as a weapon, contracting it and expelling the venom in the direction of an attacker if threatened. This core tends to bond to those destine for Ravenclaw and who are good at Potion.
Mackled Malaclaw Shell
Mackled Malaclaw is a land creature with a close resemblance to a lobster. The Malaclaw has light grey skin with green spots, and can reach a length of twelve inches. Despite the fact that it has a resemblance to a lobster, it is unfit to eat, and anyone who does eat the flesh of a Malaclaw will come down with a nasty fever and develop a green rash.
The Malaclaw is found along the rocky coastline of Europe and dines mainly on crustaceans. A bite from a Malaclaw has the unusual side effect of making the victim unlucky for around a week. Any witch or wizard bitten by a Malaclaw should call off all bets, wagers and ventures since they will definitely go against them. While the bite is unlucky it seems the Shell as a wand core is extremely lucky. It does well in all magic and tends to bond to those that have a lucky existence.
Manticore Fur/Venom/Hide/Shell
Manticore is one of the Wizarding world's most dangerous creatures. It is a sentient beast, capable of intelligent speech, but has not been classified as a being due to its violent tendencies. A Manticore has a human-like head, a lion's body, and a scorpion's tail with a stinger. A Manticore's skin repels all known charms, so is effectively hard to subdue a Manticore with magic. The Manticore originated in Greece, and is as rare as the Chimaera. The sting of the Manticore causes instant death, and it is reputed to croon softly to its victims as it devours them. All of these cores are VERY rare. Their properties are unknown and the few cores of this that are out there tend to bond to Ravenclaw.
Merpeople Hair/Scale
Merpeople are sentient beings that live underwater, and are found all over the world. Their customs and habits are mysterious, and, like the Centaurs, they refused Being status in favor of Beast. Merpeople can breathe above the waves for a time, but it is unclear if they can ever truly leave their habitat. The Merpeople in the Lake at Hogwarts will often give certain wandmakers their hair and scales for wands. Their cores are tend to bond with those who are bold and just. Also those who do well in Care of Magical Creatures.
Moke Skin
Moke is a lizard with silver-green skin that is native to the British Isles. It can reach up to ten inches in length. The Moke has never been noticed by Muggles since it has the ability to shrink at will. These cores will often chose those who are good at Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Mooncalf Dung Petrified
Mooncalf is a shy creature that only comes out of its burrow during a full moon. The Mooncalf has smooth, pale grey skin, and four spindly legs that end in large flat feet. The Mooncalf also has bulging eyes that sit on the top of its head. This core, while not popular, is perfect for those seeking a future in Herbology.
Murtlap Growth
Murtlap is a rodent with a growth on its back resembling a sea anemone. Murtlaps mainly feed on crustaceans, although it will bite at the feet of those which get too close to it.
The growth on the Murtlap's back may be pickled and eaten to improve one's resistance to jinxes. Murtlap Essence is a home remedy for cuts and abrasions. This core will do well for those who like Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Niffler Hair/Claw
Niffler is a treasure-hunting creature with a long narrow snout. They are very attracted to shiny things, which makes them wonderful for locating anything metallic or shimmery, but they might bite if a person is wearing any jewellery. Nifflers are kept by Goblins to burrow for treasure. Nifflers are gentle creatures, and can be affectionate to its owners but will also destroy belongings and property if kept in a house. Transfiguration is often what this core is best for.
Nogtail Tail
Nogtail is a demon-like creature resembling a piglet, but stunted by narrow black eyes, a thick stubby tail, and long legs. It is mainly found across rural areas in Europe, America and Russia. Nogtails sneak into a pigsty, and suckle on an ordinary pig which curses the farm. The longer the Nogtail goes undetected, the longer the blight will stay on the farm. Since Jinxes and Charms are strengthened by this core this often bonds with those who work in Charms.
Nundu Hair
Nundu is a giant mammal similar to a leopard that is native to East Africa. It moves silently, despite its "gigantic" size, and is considered by some to be the most dangerous creature alive. The breath of the Nundu is toxic and filled with disease. This alone can wipe out entire villages of people. The Nundu is extremely hard to subdue, and has never been defeated by less than around one hundred wizards working together. Due to the evil toxic nature of this creature these cores are banned in the UK.
Occamy Hide/Feather
Occamy is a two legged serpentine-bodied creature with wings. The Occamy is extremely aggressive to anyone who approaches it, and it lives off of rats, birds, and occasionally monkeys. It is extremely protective of its eggs, which are made of pure soft silver. These cores tend to go to those in Slytherin.
Owl Feather
Owls are birds of prey. There are over 201 species of owls. They normally feed on small animals, insects, fish, and other birds. Owls do not make nests, instead sheltering inside trees, ground burrows, caves, and barns. This core will always chose those in Ravenclaw
Phoenix Tail Feather
Phoenix is a large swan-sized scarlet bird with red and gold plumage, along with a golden beak and talons, black eyes, and a tail as long as a peacock. Its scarlet feathers glow faintly in darkness, while its golden tail feathers are hot to the touch. Phoenixes are known for nesting on mountain peaks. They are gentle herbivores and are not known for fighting. As Phoenixes approach their burning day they resemble a half-plucked turkey. Also, their eyes become dull, their feathers start to fall out, and it begins to make gagging noises. Then the bird suddenly bursts into flames only to rise from the ashes shortly after. In a number of days, they grow back to full size.This makes phoenixes immortal. These cores properties are common but the properties are varied and unknown to this day. They can chose any house and are good for both Dark Magic and Light.
Plimpy Webbing
Plimpy is a small round fish with two legs ending in webbed feet. It lives in deep lakes, and feeds on water snails. The Plimpy is not dangerous, but will nibble on the feet and clothing of unsuspecting swimmers. These cores tend to bond to those who do well in Care of Magical Creatures and from time to time Potions.
Pogrebin Hide/Tooth
Pogrebin is a foot-tall Russian demon with an over-sized grey head. The Pogrebin is attracted to Humans, and enjoys trailing them. When the Human turns around, the Pogrebin crouches down, and, because of its large head, resembles a rock. If the creature manages to tail a Human for a few hours, a sense of despair and futility will wash over the Human. When the victim sits or sinks to its knees to weep, the Pogrebin attacks and attempts to devour them. Fortunately, the Pogrebin can be fought off with simple hexes, Stunning Spells, or kicking. Cores of these creature are rare in England but are not unheard of. They usually bond to those with a mean streak in them.
Porlock Hair
Porlock is a horse guardian native to England and Southern Ireland. They are small, reaching a height of two feet on average, and covered in a large amount of rough hair. It has a large nose, small arms ending in four stubby fingers, and it walks on two cloven hoofs. The Porlock guards horses, and lives on grass. It can either be found nesting in the straw of a stable, or in the middle of the herd it is protecting. They are mistrustful of humans so their hair is rather rare. The few wand cores that have this hair tend to bond to those who like to protect and are good at Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Puffskein Fur
Puffskein is covered in soft, custard-coloured fur and spherical in shape. It is a popular pet that does not object to being cuddled or thrown about. The Puffskein is a scavenger, eating anything from leftovers to spiders, but it particularly likes to use its long thin tongue to eat wizards' bogeys while they sleep. The Puffskein is easy to care for, and they emit a humming sound when they are content. These cores almost always bond to a Hufflepuff.
Pygmy Puff Fur
Pygmy Puff is a miniature Puffskein, sold in Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes shop at 93 Diagon Alley in London. These are a miniature version of a Puffskein and come in the colors Purple and Pink. It is unknown why but these core are well adapt at Charms rivaling some of the more powerful Charm cores. It may have something to do with the breeding or the color. These cores will always bond to females ONLY.
Ramora Scale
Ramora is a silver fish native to the Indian Ocean. The Ramora is an immensely powerful magical beast, and is a guardian of seafarers. The International Confederation of Wizards enforce anti-poaching laws to protect the Ramora, which also has the ability to anchor ships in place. The scales are either freely given by the creature or taken from the dead. These cores tend to pick those with a spirit of the sea in them. Their magical properties vary as they chose people form all houses.
Red Cap Blood
Red Cap is a small dwarf-like creature that lives in holes underground. They are found on the sites of old battlefields, or wherever blood has been spilt. The crystallized blood of a Red Cap makes a powerful core. This core is usually good for a duelist or those who do battle.
Re’em Hide/Blood
Re'em is native to the wilds of North America and the Far East. The Re'em is extremely rare, resembling giant oxen with a golden hide. Re'em blood gives immense strength to the drinker. However, since demand far exceeds supply, and obtaining the blood in the first place is extremely difficult, it can rarely be found on the open market. These cores are extremely rare but what few that are out there usually bond to those with a great deal of physical strength.
Runespoor Skin
Runespoor is a three-headed snake native to Burkina Faso in Africa. Runespoors are six to seven feet long, with orange and black stripes. Due to it’s association to dark wizards this core is banned.
Salamander Skin/Tail
Salamander is a small fire dwelling lizard that feeds on flames. They are born out of flames, and appear to be blue or red depending on the heat of the flames. They live as long as the flames that spawned them. The Salamander can survive outside out of the flames that birthed it for up to six hours if fed on pepper. Salamander blood has powerful regenerative and curative properties. These cores usually pick people with a fiery personality. They are also good for those who do well in Potions.
Sea Serpent Scale
sea serpent is an aquatic creature found in several oceans around the world. Reaching over a hundred feet long with a horse-like head and snake-like body, the sea serpent is a fearsome looking creature. Despite this, no Sea Serpent has ever been known to hurt a human. These cores usually pick gentle giants. Those with those who have this core may look fearsome but have a heart of gold.
Shrake Spike
Shrake is a magically-created species of fish, found in the Atlantic Ocean. The creature is covered in spines and deliberately seeks out and destroys Muggle fishing nets. Those that have this core tend to be followers and not leaders. They also tend to be good at Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Snidget Feather
Snidget is completely round, covered in golden feathers, and has a long, thin beak. Its eyes are a bright red, and the rotational wings allow the Snidget to move in any direction with remarkable agility and speed. These birds are endangered and hunting them is illegal. Any feathers found in cores, at least from shops in Diagon Alley, come from the sanctuary at Hogwarts. When the Snidget’s malt their feathers are gathered and sold to the wandmakers. These wands always end up with those who are good at flying and Quidditch.
Sphinx Hair/Nail
Sphinx is a magical creature native to Egypt. It has the head of human, and the body of lion. Sphinxes are capable of human speech, and are known for their love of puzzles, riddles, and enigmas. When the Ministry of Magic began categorizing magical creatures, the Sphinx was placed in the Beast category rather than the Being category due to their violent tendencies. These cores usually pick those who are destine for Ravenclaw.
Steeler Venom Crystilized
Streeler is a giant snail that is native to Africa, but has been successfully bred by wizards in Europe, Asia and North America. The Streeler changes colour on an hourly basis, and leaves behind a trail of venom so toxic that it burns all vegetation that it touches. It is kept as a pet by those who enjoy its Kaleidoscopic color changes. Streeler venom is one of the few known substances that can kill Horklumps.
Tebo Hide
Tebo is an ash-coloured warthog. It is found in the African countries of Congo and Zaire. The Tebo is very dangerous and can make itself invisible, rendering it virtually impossible to capture or evade. Tebo hide is strong as it is used by wizards and witches to make protective shields and clothing. It also makes a good core, though rare. This core does well with protection magic though tends to favor those with a bit of Dark Wizard in them.
Troll Hide/Hair/Nail
Troll is a magical creature of prodigious strength and immense stupidity. Trolls generally reach a height of twelve feet and weigh up to a ton. They are violent and aggressive, and engage in unpredictable behavior; comparable with giants. Trolls originated in Scandinavia, but are now found all across Europe. Trolls feed on raw flesh, and are not fussy what they eat, from animals to humans. Due to the chaotic nature of a Troll these cores are rarely used. Someone that has a Troll core is usually an unstable person.
Unicorn Hair/Horn Fragment/Hove Fragment
Unicorn is a white, horse-like creature with a single horn on its forehead. Unicorn foals are pure gold, and turn silver when they are about two years old. They grow their horn at around four. At about seven years old, they are fully grown and turn a white which is so bright it makes snow look grey in comparison. Their hooves are golden, and their blood is silver-blue in color and shines under moonlight. Unicorns prefer a woman's touch, but the young are more trusting and do not mind men as much. Unicorns are also so fleet of foot that they can rarely be caught by humans. They inhabit the forests of Europe. Various parts of the Unicorn - the horn and tail hair in particular - are used in potions and for the cores of wands, respectively. The tail hair can also be used as binding in bandages due to its incredible strength. A core made from Unicorn are often good at most magic. Because of the herd that lives on the grounds of Hogwarts many of these items are in good supply to wandmakers in Diagon Alley. Unicorns often come to the Care of Magical Creatures professor when their horn or hooves are injured. No wandmaker if any caliber would make a wand from Unicorn Blood as that would be a disaster.
Winged Horses
Abraxan Feather
Abraxan is a breed of Winged horse. It is a gigantic, extremely powerful Palomino. They drink only single malt whiskey and require forceful handling. These cores usually chose those with a forceful personality.
Aethonan Feather
Aethonan is a breed of winged horse. They are chestnut in color and popular in Great Britain and Ireland, but they have been seen elsewhere. These cores are fairly common and are good at most types of magic.
Granian Feather
Granian is a breed of Winged horse. They are grey and very fast. These cores are fairly common and are good at most types of magic.
Thestral Hair
Thestral is a breed of winged horses with skeletal body, face with reptilian features, and leathery wide wings that resembles a bat. They are very rare, and are considered one of the more dangerous creatures by the Ministry. There is a flock at Hogwarts though no wandmakers in a hundred years has tried to use the hair in wandmaking. There is a new wandmaker in Diagon Alley who is trying his hand at the core. The properties are unknown.
Yeti
Yeti is native to Tibet. It stands up to 15 feet tall, and is a snowy white furred humanoid creature, that may be related to the troll. It fears fire. The Yeti will attack and eat any thing that it meets, so no witch or wizard has had the opportunity to study it up close yet. Because of this there is no wand with any sort of Yeti core.
Veela Hair
Veela are a race of semi-human, semi-magical creatures reminiscent of the Sirens of Greek mythology. They appear to be young, beautiful human women, and their appearance and especially their dance are magically seductive to almost all males. When Veela are angry, however, they transform into something more like Harpies — their faces turn into cruel-beaked bird heads and long scaly wings burst from their shoulders, and they can launch balls of fire from their hand. Usually only those of Veela blood have a core with this hair but some wandmakers can talk a Veela into giving up some hair. The veela’s inherent intelligence makes finding these wands among the non-Veela blooded most common in Ravenclaw.
Cores:
Acromantula Hair Acromantula are a species of giant spider, native to the rainforests of Southeast Asia, particularly Borneo. Acromantulas are believed to be a wizard-bred species, designed to guard dwellings or treasure hoards, and were first created before the Ban on Experimental Breeding in 1965. These giant spiders, with a taste for human flesh, were first spotted in 1794.This core tends to be one that a fair amount of dark wizards have. It works well with darker magics.
Augury Beak Fragment
Augurys, or Irish phoenixes, their cries were once thought to signify an upcoming death. This was found untrue as they only cry when it is about to rain. These cores work well for those with a gift for divination or weather charms.
Basilisk Bone
As it is illegal to bread Basilisk it is rare that one will find a live one to get wand making material off of. The bones of a Basilisk are near as rare but can be found. Those with a cunning nature are usually drawn to a Basilisk Bone core wand. These wand are good for those who are excel in Defense against the Dark Arts.
Billywig Wings
Billywig are an insect native to Australia. Their sting can cause giddiness and levitation. However to many stings can cause prolonged levitation. The nature of the animal makes this core an excellent one for those good at Charms.
Boggart Heartstrings
Though no one knows what a Boggart really looks like it is known where they inhabit. The heart string of such a creature makes perfect wand cores for those who excel in Transfiguration.
Bowtruckle Splinter
These creatures protect trees in forests all over Europe. One needs to offer them tree lice or fairy eggs to get wood or leaves from their trees. If a wandmaker is on especially good terms with a Bowtruckle they may give then a splinter from their wood like bodies. These make spectacular cores for wands meant for those who adore Herbology.
Bundimun Acid
In a short time a few Bundimun can completely destroy a home. It is often best to call the Ministry to get ride of them because if one gets to close they will spit acid. This acid can be crystallized and used as a wand core. They make great cores for those who seek a future in Potions.
Centaur Hair
These are rare cores as Centaur are known for their tolerance of wizards. A Centaur hair core is once of great power but can be extremely fickle. These cores are best for people with a mellow temperament and chose those good in Runes and Astrology.
Chimera Hair/Scale
These creatures are native to Greece and are considered VERY dangerous. Only one has ever been recorded killed by a wizard. Not to say these cores are rare. There is many an adventure that can find tufts of the hair or sluffed off scales. Wands with this core have a great deal of raw power but are difficult to control. It take a person with a strong spirit to have a wand with such a core. Often those good at Flying will have a Chimera core.
Chizpurfle Fang
A magical parasite that is quite small they will attack magical items. A core of this nature is not very desirable but there are a few out there. They are usually owned by tricksters of those good at Potions.
Clabbert Pustule/Horn
A creature mainly found in America it resembles a cross between a frog and a monkey. They had a large red pustule on it’s forehead that flashes red when it senses danger. It is a graceful creature that dwells in trees. A wand with a Pustule core is good for DADA while the Horn is good for those in the study of Herbology.
Crup Tail Tip
A wizard-bred dog that strongly resembles a Jack Russell Terrier, except that a Crup has a forked tail. They are wizard-bred dogs, since they are extremely loyal to wizards and ferocious toward Muggles. They will eat almost anything. Crup owners are required by law to remove the tail of the animal when it is six to eight weeks old, using a painless Severing Charm in case they are noticed by Muggles. This is where wandmakers get the tail tips for wand cores. Due to their dislike of muggles these cores usually chose those with a lean toward the dark arts.
Dementor Skin
This is a banned core. Any wizard caught with this core in their wand will have to taken away and destroyed. A wand with such a core can cast only dark magic and can NEVER EVER cast the Patronus charm
Demiguise Hair
Demiguise are a Far East animal that resembles an ape. It takes a trained hunter to find this animal as it can become invisible. The pelts are often used for invisibility cloaks. It’s silky hair makes wonderful cores for those with strength in Transfiguration.
Diricawl Feather
This creature is known as the Dodo to muggles. Muggles think they have hunted this animal to extinction. In reality the Diricawl can disappear and reappear in another place when is senses danger. This makes the core good for Charms.
Doxy Wing/Venom/Hair/Teeth
Doxy are small fairy like creatures that have a foul temperament. Their teeth are razor sharp and good for DADA in the core of a wand. The hair is black and thick the raw power of it often chooses dark wizards. The Venom they use to poison can be crystallized and placed in a core. These core excel at Potions. The Doxies shiny beetle like wings are good for those who are good at flying.
Dragon Heartstring/Hide/ Horn Shaving/Claw Shaving/Blood/Tooth/Scale
There are many different kind of dragons and sometimes the wand maker will tell you the type of dragon the material came from. These dragons are Antipodean Opaleye, Chinese Fireball, Common Welsh Green, Hebridean Black, Hungarian Horntail, Norwegian Ridgeback, Peruvian Vipertooth, Romanian Longhorn Swedish Short-Snout and
Ukrainian Ironbelly. Each dragon and part has varied properties that add to a wand.
Antipodean Opaleye - The Antipodean Opaleye is a breed of Dragon native to New Zealand, although it has been known to migrate to Australia in search of territory. It resides in valleys, which is unusual as dragons typically reside on mountains. It is generally considered one of the most beautiful dragons with pearly scales that line its body, and glittering multi-coloured eyes that have no pupils. The Opaleye's eggs are pale grey and been known to be mistaken by Muggles as fossils. Its flame is vivid red, and the Opaleye is not particularly aggressive, rarely killing unless it is hungry. Its prey of choice is sheep, but it has been known to attack larger animals. All parts of this dragon do well for wand cores meant for someone good at Astronomy
Chinese Fireball
The Chinese Fireball, also known as the Liondragon, is a dragon native to China. The Fireball is scarlet and smooth scaled with a fringe of golden spikes around its face. The Fireball's snout is stubby, and it has protruding eyes. Its name is derived from the mushroom-shaped flame that is emitted through its nostrils when angered. The Chinese Fireball breed of dragons generally yield females that are larger than males. The eggs of the Chinese Fireball are crimson, speckled with gold, and the shells are prized by Chinese Wizards. Its diet consists of most mammals, usually prefering pigs and deer. Unlike other dragons, the Fireball is more tolerant of its own kind, and will sometimes consent to sharing its territory with two other dragons. All parts of this dragon do well for wands cores meant for someone good at Charms.
Common Welsh Green, or just Welsh Green, dragon is a native of Wales. It nests in the higher mountains regions where a reservation has been set up for it. This dragon is a relatively subdued breed. It prefers to prey mainly on sheep and other small mammals and to avoid human contact altogether. The Welsh Green's roar is rather distinctive and somewhat melodious and it issues its fire in narrow jets. The eggs of the Common Welsh Green are earthy brown, flecked with green. All parts of this dragon do well for wands cores meant for someone good at Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Hebridean Black is a dragon native to the Hebrides Islands of Scotland. It has dark rough scales, ridges along its back, and its tail is tipped with an arrow-shaped spike. The Hebridean Black can grow up to thirty feet long, and has bright purple eyes. Its favorite food is deer, although it has been known to carry off cows and large deer. More aggressive than the other dragon native to the British Isles. The Hebridean Black requires a territory of one hundred square mile each. The MacFusty clan take responsibility for the dragons, and have done for centuries. All parts of this dragon do well for wands cores meant for someone good at Herbology.
Hungarian Horntail is a dragon native to Hungary and is considered to be the most dangerous dragon breed. It has black scales, a spiked tail, and bronze horns protruding from its head. It has yellow eyes with vertical pupils. Its roar is a yowling, screeching scream, and its flame can reach to about fifty feet. The Horntail's foods of choice include cattle, sheep, and goat. Its eggs are cement-coloured with very hard shells. Horntails are also known for being one of the most vicious breeds of dragon. All parts of this dragon do well for wands cores meant for someone good at Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Norwegian Ridgeback is a dragon native to Norway, and its habitat is the Northern mountains. It resembles the Hungarian Horntail, except for its black ridges on its back, the browner texture in its scales, and its less hostile attitude. It has venomous fangs, and its food of choice is large mammals, including water mammals which is unusual for a dragon. Its eggs are black, and young Ridgebacks develop the ability to shoot flame earlier than any other breeds (around one to three months). Female Ridgebacks are generally more ferocious than the males. All parts of this dragon do well for wands cores meant for someone good at Potions.
The Peruvian Vipertooth is a dragon native to eastern and north-eastern Peru. Its scales are smooth and copper-coloured. It also has black ridge-markings and short horns on its head. Like the Norwegian Ridgeback, its fangs are venomous. It is the smallest known breed of dragon, about fifteen feet (five metres) long and able to conceal itself well from Muggles. The Vipertooth feeds on goats and cows, but is notorious for its particular craving for humans. In the late 19th century, Vipertooth numbers once went on an alarming increase and became a serious threat to wizards and Muggles alike. The International Confederation of Wizards was forced to send an extermination squad in to reduce the Vipertooth population. Romanian Longhorn is a dragon native to Romania. Its habitat is the mountains. The Romanian Longhorn has dark green scales, and two long, glittering golden horns. The Longhorn prefers to gore its prey with its horns before roasting it. The horns of the Longhorn, when powdered, are highly prized as a potion ingredient, and is a Class B Tradeable Material. The native territory of the Longhorn has become home to the world's largest and most important dragon reservation. In recent years, the Longhorn has undergone an intensive breeding program after the numbers of the creatures fell low due to the demand for its horn. All parts of this dragon do well for wands cores meant for someone good at Potions.
Swedish Short-Snout is a dragon native to Sweden. Its habitat is wild, uninhabited areas, mostly the northern mountains of Sweden. Its scales are silvery blue, and its powerful flame is also a brilliant blue color - and hot enough to reduce timber and bone to ashes in seconds. Its attractive skin is much sought after for the making of gloves and shields. Since it rarely comes into contact with humans, the Short-Snout has less deaths to its name than most dragons. All parts of this dragon do well for wands cores meant for someone good at Transfiguration.
Ukrainian Ironbelly is a dragon native to Ukraine. It is metallic grey, with long talons and rough scales. It is the largest breed of dragon which reaches up to six tons, and its eyes are deep red. Sometimes the eyes seem to be the same color as his body, this is because a protection scale. Rotund and slower in flight than other dragons, the Ironbelly is nevertheless extremely dangerous, capable of crushing dwellings on which it lands. Ironbellies have been subject to constant observation by the Ukrainian wizarding authorities ever since an Ironbelly carried off a sailing boat from the Black Sea in 1799. Thankfully, the boat was empty at the time. All parts of this dragon do well for wands cores meant for someone good at Divination.
Dugbog Hide
A creature that lives in marshes and resembles a piece of dead wood. It’s paws are finned letting it glide through the water. It mainly eats small animals but will bite the ankle if wizards and muggles who venture into their habitat. Dugbog are known for feasting on Mandrake and cause be a headache for many a Mandrake grower. Those who do well in Care of Magical creatures will sometimes have this as a core.
ErklingTooth
They are a elflike creature who tend to eat children. Erkling are found in Germany who’s Ministry keeps them in check. Erkling are vile creatures and wand cores made from their teeth are only good for the dark arts.
Erumpent hide
And African creature who resemble a Rhino their hide repels most curses and charms. This makes cores made from their hide excellent for Defense Against the Dark Arts wands.
Fairy Wing/Fairy Larvae Silk
These vain creatures often let wizards keep them as a sort of decorative pet. They can lay up to 500 eggs at a time on the underside of leaves. Due to the fact they allow wizards to keep them around these are fairly common cores. The light and airy wings are good for Charms and Flying while the Larvae Silk does well for Divination.
Fire Crab Jewel Fragment
Fire crab is a large, tortoise-like creatures native to the island of Fiji. They have six legs, and a heavily jeweled shell. It is able to defend itself by shooting flames from its rear end when it is attacked. The fire crab is a protected specie. Muggles hunt them for their jewels while wizard prize the shells for caldrons. A core made with a fragment of a jewel from it’s shell is full of raw magic and takes a talented wizard to master it. The core is good for all magic fields.
Flesh Eating Slug Slime
Flesh-Eating Slug is a magical creature very similar to its namesake, the common garden slug. Many students fear these slugs and the Hogwarts Caretaker often has issue with them in the vegetable garden. Their slime is an unusual core for a wand and it’s properties are relatively unknown.
Flobberworm Mucus
A ten inch brown herbivore this worm is consider totally harmless by the Ministry. The mucus is also used to thicken potions as well as in a few wand cores. Those of a gentle passive nature do well with cores made of this mucus.
Fwooper Feather
Fwooper is a magical African bird with brightly-coloured feathers, which can include orange, pink, lime green and yellow. Listening to the Fwooper's song will drive the listener insane, so each bird must be sold with a Silencing Charm placed on it. The Charm has to be reinforced monthly, and a license is required to own one of the birds. Their feathers are used for quills as well as wand cores. Cores made from these feathers are good for Charms and usually bond to those with a dramatic tendency.
Ghoul Slime
Ghoul is an ugly creature that resembles a slimy, buck-toothed ogre. They tend to live in the attics or barns of wizards and witches. They are relatively harmless creatures and are just seen as nuisances because of the noise they make. They are relatively dimwitted, and live off of bugs and other household pests. At most, they will groan and throw objects. There isn’t much call for this wand core. Though the few there are tend to go to those who do well in Care for Magical Creatures.
Giant Squid Ink
Giant Squid is a huge creature that lives in the lake at Hogwarts. It is semi-sentient and not very dangerous. If fact it has been known to rescue first years that fall into the lake during the first year boat trip to Hogwarts Castle for the Sorting ceremony. The Giant Squid is also said to accompany students during their swim in the Hogwarts Lake. The ink is given every year freely by the squid and is a fairly common core. Hufflepuff often bond to this core.
Glumbumble Treacle
Glumbumble, a grey, furry, flying insect, produces treacle that induces melancholy. The treacle is used as an antidote to the hysteria caused by eating Alihotsy leaves. Glumbumbles nest in dark and secluded places and feed on nettles. The Treacle usually makes and unsuitable core but combined with the right wood can make a powerful wand.
Gnome Hide
gnome is a common magical creature which infests the gardens of wizarding households. It looks roughly like a potato with legs. It does not look anything like the garden gnomes of Muggles. These cores bond to those good in Herbology.
Griffin Feather/Hair
Griffin originated in Greece. It has the front legs, wings and head of a giant eagle, and the body and hind legs of a lion. Griffins are often used by Wizards as guards, and are known as fierce creatures. However, despite this, skilled wizards have been able to befriend them. Like sphinxes griffins are used by wizards who need treasure guarding. Both cores tend to gravitate toward Griffyndors and those strong of heart.
Grindylow Teeth/Horn
Grindylow is a pale green underwater creature that live in the weed beds at the bottom of lakes in Great Britain and Ireland. It has green teeth and pointy horns and long, strong fingers they use to pull prey into the water. They are violent and aggressive towards wizards and witches and Muggles. Merpeople have been known to domesticate them and keep them as pets. Grindylows inhabit Hogwarts Lake at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The trick to combating them is to break their grip; their abnormally long fingers are strong but very brittle. They are not really a threat, but they do eat some humans, which makes them Dark Creatures. They do not eat humans often because it is not the correct diet for them, they mostly eat fish, algae, and small sea creatures. These cores tend to bond to those of Slytherin.
Hinkypunk Crystalized Smoke
Hinkypunk is a small, one-legged creature which appears as though it were made of wisps of smoke. It likes to lead travelers off the track at night and into bog. Tricksters often get this as a core in their wands.
Hippocampus Hair/Scale
Native to Greece, the Hippocampus is a beast with the head and forequarters of a horse, and the tail and hindquarters of a giant fish. Although it is generally found in the Mediterranean, a blue roan specimen was caught off the coast of Scotland and domesticated. The core is good for Transfiguration.
Hippogriff Feather/Talon
Hippogriff is a magical creature that has the front legs, wings, and head of a giant eagle and the body, hind legs and tail of a horse. It is very similar to another mythical creature, the Griffin, with the horse rear replacing the lion rear. Hippogriffs have cruel, steel-coloured beaks and large, brilliantly orange eyes. The talons on their front legs are half a foot long and appear deadly. If proper etiquette is followed a wizard can tame a Hippogriff. These cores are fairly common as there is a herd of them at Hogwarts. They are very powerful and do well in all magical fields.
Horklump Bristle
Horklump resembles a fleshy pink mushroom covered in black bristles. Originally native to Scandinavia, the Horklump is now found throughout Europe. They use sinewy tentacles to root around in the earth for their desired food, earthworms. They are fast breeders, and can cover an average garden in a matter of days. This core works well for those good in Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures.
Imp Hide
Found only in Britain and Ireland, the Imp is a magical creature often confused with the Pixie. They are of similar height, between six to eight inches, but that is where the physical similarities end. The Imp cannot fly like the Pixie, nor is it as brightly colored.
Imps make their home in marshland, where they indulge their slapstick sense of humor by pushing and tripping the unwary. The Imps diet consists mainly of insects. Pranksters and those who are jovial often have this core.
Jarvey Hair
Jarvey resembles an overgrown ferret, and is commonly found in Britain, Ireland, and North America. The Jarvey is capable of Human speech, although true conversation with a Jarvey is impossible. The creature uses short, usually rude, statements and phrases in an almost constant stream. These cores are rather uncommon as their magic can be rather violent.
Jobberknoll Feather
Jobberknoll is a small, blue speckled bird that never makes any noise until the moment before it dies. It then lets out a long scream, which consists of every sound it ever heard backwards. Jobberknoll feathers are used in Truth Serums and Memory Potions. The cores work well for those inclined to Potions.
Kappa Water/Scale
Kappa is a Japanese water demon. It resembles a scale-covered monkey with webbed hands and a water-filled depression on top of its head. The water in this hollow is the source of the creature's strength. They live in shallow water and prey on human blood. They will kill anyone who wanders into their ponds or rivers. Being such an evil creature these cores tend toward those with a wicked nature.
Kelpie Hair
Kelpie is a water demon native to Britain and Ireland. Able to take any form, they usually take the form of a horse with a bullrush mane. After luring unwary travelers onto their backs, they drag them underwater and eat them, allowing the entrails to float to the surface of the water. This core also tends toward the wicked who are good at Transfiguration.
Knarl Quill
Knarl is a creature that greatly resembles a hedgehog. They are highly suspicious creatures and believe that any food left out for them is a lure for a trap. Knarls will usually go berserk if they see an attempt to poison them, causing damage to a garden. Cores of this nature tend to bond to Hufflepuffs and those good at Herbology
Kneazle Fur
Kneazle is a magical creature, similar to a cat in appearance. They have spotted, speckled or flecked fur, large ears and a lightly plumed tail, like a lion. They make excellent pets or even magical familiars if they like a witch or wizard. They are very intelligent, independent and occasionally aggressive, and have an uncanny ability to detect suspicious and distrustful people. They can also safely guide their owner home. These cores tend to chose those of Gryffindor House.
Leprechaun Hair
Leprechaun is a mischievous magical creature, although it is not malicious. They have a reputation as pranksters, but have never inflicted lasting damage on a Human. Native only to Ireland, they are capable of speech. These cores bond to tricksters and those good at Charms.
Lethifold Hide
Lethifold (also known as a Living Shroud) is a carnivorous and highly dangerous magical creature, and very similar to a Dementor. Its appearance resembles that of a black cloak roughly half an inch thick, although it gets thicker if the Lethifold has recently digested a victim. It glides along the ground and other surfaces in an unknown form of locomotion in search of its prey, humans. It attacks its prey at night, when the target is asleep, and suffocates and digests it in its bed. The only form of protection against a Lethifold is a Patronus. Other spells such as Stupefy will not work. The Lethifold is a very rare species, and can only be found in the tropics. These cores are banned because of the evil it can infect the wielder with.
Lobalug Venom
Lobalug is an aquatic creature found at the bottom of the North Sea. It is a simple creature, ten inches long comprising a rubbery spout and a venom sac. The Lobalug uses its venom sac as a weapon, contracting it and expelling the venom in the direction of an attacker if threatened. This core tends to bond to those destine for Ravenclaw and who are good at Potion.
Mackled Malaclaw Shell
Mackled Malaclaw is a land creature with a close resemblance to a lobster. The Malaclaw has light grey skin with green spots, and can reach a length of twelve inches. Despite the fact that it has a resemblance to a lobster, it is unfit to eat, and anyone who does eat the flesh of a Malaclaw will come down with a nasty fever and develop a green rash.
The Malaclaw is found along the rocky coastline of Europe and dines mainly on crustaceans. A bite from a Malaclaw has the unusual side effect of making the victim unlucky for around a week. Any witch or wizard bitten by a Malaclaw should call off all bets, wagers and ventures since they will definitely go against them. While the bite is unlucky it seems the Shell as a wand core is extremely lucky. It does well in all magic and tends to bond to those that have a lucky existence.
Manticore Fur/Venom/Hide/Shell
Manticore is one of the Wizarding world's most dangerous creatures. It is a sentient beast, capable of intelligent speech, but has not been classified as a being due to its violent tendencies. A Manticore has a human-like head, a lion's body, and a scorpion's tail with a stinger. A Manticore's skin repels all known charms, so is effectively hard to subdue a Manticore with magic. The Manticore originated in Greece, and is as rare as the Chimaera. The sting of the Manticore causes instant death, and it is reputed to croon softly to its victims as it devours them. All of these cores are VERY rare. Their properties are unknown and the few cores of this that are out there tend to bond to Ravenclaw.
Merpeople Hair/Scale
Merpeople are sentient beings that live underwater, and are found all over the world. Their customs and habits are mysterious, and, like the Centaurs, they refused Being status in favor of Beast. Merpeople can breathe above the waves for a time, but it is unclear if they can ever truly leave their habitat. The Merpeople in the Lake at Hogwarts will often give certain wandmakers their hair and scales for wands. Their cores are tend to bond with those who are bold and just. Also those who do well in Care of Magical Creatures.
Moke Skin
Moke is a lizard with silver-green skin that is native to the British Isles. It can reach up to ten inches in length. The Moke has never been noticed by Muggles since it has the ability to shrink at will. These cores will often chose those who are good at Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Mooncalf Dung Petrified
Mooncalf is a shy creature that only comes out of its burrow during a full moon. The Mooncalf has smooth, pale grey skin, and four spindly legs that end in large flat feet. The Mooncalf also has bulging eyes that sit on the top of its head. This core, while not popular, is perfect for those seeking a future in Herbology.
Murtlap Growth
Murtlap is a rodent with a growth on its back resembling a sea anemone. Murtlaps mainly feed on crustaceans, although it will bite at the feet of those which get too close to it.
The growth on the Murtlap's back may be pickled and eaten to improve one's resistance to jinxes. Murtlap Essence is a home remedy for cuts and abrasions. This core will do well for those who like Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Niffler Hair/Claw
Niffler is a treasure-hunting creature with a long narrow snout. They are very attracted to shiny things, which makes them wonderful for locating anything metallic or shimmery, but they might bite if a person is wearing any jewellery. Nifflers are kept by Goblins to burrow for treasure. Nifflers are gentle creatures, and can be affectionate to its owners but will also destroy belongings and property if kept in a house. Transfiguration is often what this core is best for.
Nogtail Tail
Nogtail is a demon-like creature resembling a piglet, but stunted by narrow black eyes, a thick stubby tail, and long legs. It is mainly found across rural areas in Europe, America and Russia. Nogtails sneak into a pigsty, and suckle on an ordinary pig which curses the farm. The longer the Nogtail goes undetected, the longer the blight will stay on the farm. Since Jinxes and Charms are strengthened by this core this often bonds with those who work in Charms.
Nundu Hair
Nundu is a giant mammal similar to a leopard that is native to East Africa. It moves silently, despite its "gigantic" size, and is considered by some to be the most dangerous creature alive. The breath of the Nundu is toxic and filled with disease. This alone can wipe out entire villages of people. The Nundu is extremely hard to subdue, and has never been defeated by less than around one hundred wizards working together. Due to the evil toxic nature of this creature these cores are banned in the UK.
Occamy Hide/Feather
Occamy is a two legged serpentine-bodied creature with wings. The Occamy is extremely aggressive to anyone who approaches it, and it lives off of rats, birds, and occasionally monkeys. It is extremely protective of its eggs, which are made of pure soft silver. These cores tend to go to those in Slytherin.
Owl Feather
Owls are birds of prey. There are over 201 species of owls. They normally feed on small animals, insects, fish, and other birds. Owls do not make nests, instead sheltering inside trees, ground burrows, caves, and barns. This core will always chose those in Ravenclaw
Phoenix Tail Feather
Phoenix is a large swan-sized scarlet bird with red and gold plumage, along with a golden beak and talons, black eyes, and a tail as long as a peacock. Its scarlet feathers glow faintly in darkness, while its golden tail feathers are hot to the touch. Phoenixes are known for nesting on mountain peaks. They are gentle herbivores and are not known for fighting. As Phoenixes approach their burning day they resemble a half-plucked turkey. Also, their eyes become dull, their feathers start to fall out, and it begins to make gagging noises. Then the bird suddenly bursts into flames only to rise from the ashes shortly after. In a number of days, they grow back to full size.This makes phoenixes immortal. These cores properties are common but the properties are varied and unknown to this day. They can chose any house and are good for both Dark Magic and Light.
Plimpy Webbing
Plimpy is a small round fish with two legs ending in webbed feet. It lives in deep lakes, and feeds on water snails. The Plimpy is not dangerous, but will nibble on the feet and clothing of unsuspecting swimmers. These cores tend to bond to those who do well in Care of Magical Creatures and from time to time Potions.
Pogrebin Hide/Tooth
Pogrebin is a foot-tall Russian demon with an over-sized grey head. The Pogrebin is attracted to Humans, and enjoys trailing them. When the Human turns around, the Pogrebin crouches down, and, because of its large head, resembles a rock. If the creature manages to tail a Human for a few hours, a sense of despair and futility will wash over the Human. When the victim sits or sinks to its knees to weep, the Pogrebin attacks and attempts to devour them. Fortunately, the Pogrebin can be fought off with simple hexes, Stunning Spells, or kicking. Cores of these creature are rare in England but are not unheard of. They usually bond to those with a mean streak in them.
Porlock Hair
Porlock is a horse guardian native to England and Southern Ireland. They are small, reaching a height of two feet on average, and covered in a large amount of rough hair. It has a large nose, small arms ending in four stubby fingers, and it walks on two cloven hoofs. The Porlock guards horses, and lives on grass. It can either be found nesting in the straw of a stable, or in the middle of the herd it is protecting. They are mistrustful of humans so their hair is rather rare. The few wand cores that have this hair tend to bond to those who like to protect and are good at Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Puffskein Fur
Puffskein is covered in soft, custard-coloured fur and spherical in shape. It is a popular pet that does not object to being cuddled or thrown about. The Puffskein is a scavenger, eating anything from leftovers to spiders, but it particularly likes to use its long thin tongue to eat wizards' bogeys while they sleep. The Puffskein is easy to care for, and they emit a humming sound when they are content. These cores almost always bond to a Hufflepuff.
Pygmy Puff Fur
Pygmy Puff is a miniature Puffskein, sold in Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes shop at 93 Diagon Alley in London. These are a miniature version of a Puffskein and come in the colors Purple and Pink. It is unknown why but these core are well adapt at Charms rivaling some of the more powerful Charm cores. It may have something to do with the breeding or the color. These cores will always bond to females ONLY.
Ramora Scale
Ramora is a silver fish native to the Indian Ocean. The Ramora is an immensely powerful magical beast, and is a guardian of seafarers. The International Confederation of Wizards enforce anti-poaching laws to protect the Ramora, which also has the ability to anchor ships in place. The scales are either freely given by the creature or taken from the dead. These cores tend to pick those with a spirit of the sea in them. Their magical properties vary as they chose people form all houses.
Red Cap Blood
Red Cap is a small dwarf-like creature that lives in holes underground. They are found on the sites of old battlefields, or wherever blood has been spilt. The crystallized blood of a Red Cap makes a powerful core. This core is usually good for a duelist or those who do battle.
Re’em Hide/Blood
Re'em is native to the wilds of North America and the Far East. The Re'em is extremely rare, resembling giant oxen with a golden hide. Re'em blood gives immense strength to the drinker. However, since demand far exceeds supply, and obtaining the blood in the first place is extremely difficult, it can rarely be found on the open market. These cores are extremely rare but what few that are out there usually bond to those with a great deal of physical strength.
Runespoor Skin
Runespoor is a three-headed snake native to Burkina Faso in Africa. Runespoors are six to seven feet long, with orange and black stripes. Due to it’s association to dark wizards this core is banned.
Salamander Skin/Tail
Salamander is a small fire dwelling lizard that feeds on flames. They are born out of flames, and appear to be blue or red depending on the heat of the flames. They live as long as the flames that spawned them. The Salamander can survive outside out of the flames that birthed it for up to six hours if fed on pepper. Salamander blood has powerful regenerative and curative properties. These cores usually pick people with a fiery personality. They are also good for those who do well in Potions.
Sea Serpent Scale
sea serpent is an aquatic creature found in several oceans around the world. Reaching over a hundred feet long with a horse-like head and snake-like body, the sea serpent is a fearsome looking creature. Despite this, no Sea Serpent has ever been known to hurt a human. These cores usually pick gentle giants. Those with those who have this core may look fearsome but have a heart of gold.
Shrake Spike
Shrake is a magically-created species of fish, found in the Atlantic Ocean. The creature is covered in spines and deliberately seeks out and destroys Muggle fishing nets. Those that have this core tend to be followers and not leaders. They also tend to be good at Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Snidget Feather
Snidget is completely round, covered in golden feathers, and has a long, thin beak. Its eyes are a bright red, and the rotational wings allow the Snidget to move in any direction with remarkable agility and speed. These birds are endangered and hunting them is illegal. Any feathers found in cores, at least from shops in Diagon Alley, come from the sanctuary at Hogwarts. When the Snidget’s malt their feathers are gathered and sold to the wandmakers. These wands always end up with those who are good at flying and Quidditch.
Sphinx Hair/Nail
Sphinx is a magical creature native to Egypt. It has the head of human, and the body of lion. Sphinxes are capable of human speech, and are known for their love of puzzles, riddles, and enigmas. When the Ministry of Magic began categorizing magical creatures, the Sphinx was placed in the Beast category rather than the Being category due to their violent tendencies. These cores usually pick those who are destine for Ravenclaw.
Steeler Venom Crystilized
Streeler is a giant snail that is native to Africa, but has been successfully bred by wizards in Europe, Asia and North America. The Streeler changes colour on an hourly basis, and leaves behind a trail of venom so toxic that it burns all vegetation that it touches. It is kept as a pet by those who enjoy its Kaleidoscopic color changes. Streeler venom is one of the few known substances that can kill Horklumps.
Tebo Hide
Tebo is an ash-coloured warthog. It is found in the African countries of Congo and Zaire. The Tebo is very dangerous and can make itself invisible, rendering it virtually impossible to capture or evade. Tebo hide is strong as it is used by wizards and witches to make protective shields and clothing. It also makes a good core, though rare. This core does well with protection magic though tends to favor those with a bit of Dark Wizard in them.
Troll Hide/Hair/Nail
Troll is a magical creature of prodigious strength and immense stupidity. Trolls generally reach a height of twelve feet and weigh up to a ton. They are violent and aggressive, and engage in unpredictable behavior; comparable with giants. Trolls originated in Scandinavia, but are now found all across Europe. Trolls feed on raw flesh, and are not fussy what they eat, from animals to humans. Due to the chaotic nature of a Troll these cores are rarely used. Someone that has a Troll core is usually an unstable person.
Unicorn Hair/Horn Fragment/Hove Fragment
Unicorn is a white, horse-like creature with a single horn on its forehead. Unicorn foals are pure gold, and turn silver when they are about two years old. They grow their horn at around four. At about seven years old, they are fully grown and turn a white which is so bright it makes snow look grey in comparison. Their hooves are golden, and their blood is silver-blue in color and shines under moonlight. Unicorns prefer a woman's touch, but the young are more trusting and do not mind men as much. Unicorns are also so fleet of foot that they can rarely be caught by humans. They inhabit the forests of Europe. Various parts of the Unicorn - the horn and tail hair in particular - are used in potions and for the cores of wands, respectively. The tail hair can also be used as binding in bandages due to its incredible strength. A core made from Unicorn are often good at most magic. Because of the herd that lives on the grounds of Hogwarts many of these items are in good supply to wandmakers in Diagon Alley. Unicorns often come to the Care of Magical Creatures professor when their horn or hooves are injured. No wandmaker if any caliber would make a wand from Unicorn Blood as that would be a disaster.
Winged Horses
Abraxan Feather
Abraxan is a breed of Winged horse. It is a gigantic, extremely powerful Palomino. They drink only single malt whiskey and require forceful handling. These cores usually chose those with a forceful personality.
Aethonan Feather
Aethonan is a breed of winged horse. They are chestnut in color and popular in Great Britain and Ireland, but they have been seen elsewhere. These cores are fairly common and are good at most types of magic.
Granian Feather
Granian is a breed of Winged horse. They are grey and very fast. These cores are fairly common and are good at most types of magic.
Thestral Hair
Thestral is a breed of winged horses with skeletal body, face with reptilian features, and leathery wide wings that resembles a bat. They are very rare, and are considered one of the more dangerous creatures by the Ministry. There is a flock at Hogwarts though no wandmakers in a hundred years has tried to use the hair in wandmaking. There is a new wandmaker in Diagon Alley who is trying his hand at the core. The properties are unknown.
Yeti
Yeti is native to Tibet. It stands up to 15 feet tall, and is a snowy white furred humanoid creature, that may be related to the troll. It fears fire. The Yeti will attack and eat any thing that it meets, so no witch or wizard has had the opportunity to study it up close yet. Because of this there is no wand with any sort of Yeti core.
Veela Hair
Veela are a race of semi-human, semi-magical creatures reminiscent of the Sirens of Greek mythology. They appear to be young, beautiful human women, and their appearance and especially their dance are magically seductive to almost all males. When Veela are angry, however, they transform into something more like Harpies — their faces turn into cruel-beaked bird heads and long scaly wings burst from their shoulders, and they can launch balls of fire from their hand. Usually only those of Veela blood have a core with this hair but some wandmakers can talk a Veela into giving up some hair. The veela’s inherent intelligence makes finding these wands among the non-Veela blooded most common in Ravenclaw.
