DADA Class 1: Years 1-4

[Archer Strele]

Archer nodded his head as a few students seemed to get up and start casting spells. He was glad these students were willing to try even though they had a high chance of failing. Just as he thought this, he saw Katrina miss her target completely. It took a split second for Archer to pull out his wand, make a motion, and direct the oncoming spell in the opposite direction.

He looked at Katrina for a few seconds with a very straight face. Luckily he was a master duelist and could easily react in less than a second even when his attention was else where. Most students probably were trying to figure out what he was going to do to punish her, instead he slipped his wand back in his pocket.

"Well go ahead and try again,"

He walked over to her and pointed at the dummy.

"Make sure you aim your wand right at the dummy. Anywhere else will cause the spell to go in a different direction, like me."

He glanced up to see the others try. This was exactly what he expected to happen. For their first try, it wasn't horrible.

"Julien that was a good job. Go on to try the next spell. Maya try one more time. If you don't get it again, I'll be over to help shortly."

Jie stood back as he watched some of the other students begin practicing. No one seemed to do a very good job except for one older student. Seeing that it was his turn, he went up to his dummy. Now this was pointless, he found himself thinking. Dummies can't fight back. They can't defend. It would be much better practice against actual people.

He looked around. The little first year Gryffindor was standing closest to him. Jie waited until the Professor was busy with a student. He pointed his wand at her.

"Petrificus Totalus." He said quietly.

No spells shot out of his spell but it also didn't backfire on him. All that happened was his wand suddenly grew very hot.

"OW!" He shouted as he dropped his wand.

Katrina had half expected to get in trouble. She did send a spell at the Professor after all. But she breathed a sigh of relief as Professor Strele didn't seem to be angry with her. He just asked her to try it again.

She took a deep breath as she re-aimed her wand at her dummy. But just as she was about to cast the spell her attention was caught by a student beside her yelling "ow." She grinned. It was always nice to see a Slytherin not get their way.

But refocusing herself, she tried the spell again.

"Petrificus totalus!"

The dummy fell over. Katrina laughed.
