Araloue grinned as she entered the potions classroom, the atmosphere was always dark in the dungeons but the professor seemed absolutely compelled to brighten up the mood. She looked at the black board with the words ‘Beautifying Potion’ written upon it. Beatification potion? She sifted through her knowledge only remembering that an old hag had used it as a trick to deceive a king into marrying her.
Taking a seat away from the majority of the room she took out a sheet of parchment and an elegant quill, scrawling softly the ingredients. Although the large toads croaking disrupting her train of thought leaving it alas impossible to think correctly.

Sienna glared at Christian as he slid into the seat she was about to occupy. She moved a seat up to take the one directly in front of him. A first year was moving to take it but with a simple look, the first year took one on the opposite side of the class room. Turning around to face Christian, she laughed.
Christian, you must be so good at the potion because you make it so often for yourself."
She turned back around, crossing her legs and leaning back. Over her shoulder, she added,
"You probably should work on making a stronger dose because this one doesn't seem to be working that well."

May loved watching her students arrive and chatting amongst themselves. She just loved the beginning of the school year.
But after giving everyone enough time to arrive, she clapped her hands to start class. Usually she wouldn't mind starting class late but this particular potion would take the entire time.
"Okay, beautifying potion. I know what everyone is thinking. What good could learning this possibly be? Well let me tell you. Beauty is a very powerful thing. How many of you are familiar with Malodora Grymm? She was a hag who used a very powerful beautifying potion to conceal her true identity. She used it to trick a King into marrying her.
But knowing this potion can have positive meanings as well. Is anyone here considering a career as a Healer? This potion is used to treat burn victims and to lessen scars."
May tapped the board with her wand. A few pink and purple sparks flew out of the end.
"I wrote the instructions up here. Familiarize yourselves with them before you begin. Misreading is not an excuse for a failed potion. Your ingredients can be found in the store room. This will take the rest of the class time. When you are finished you may feed a few drops to your toad. At the end of the class I will collect all toads. You may begin."

(assuming Ben's been here the entire time)
Potions was not always his favorite subject, but the Professor was his Head of House. So it was not as bad as it could be.
Once the Professor had finished speaking, he turned his attention to the board. It looked very complicated. There were a lot of ingredients and everything had to be done in very specific ways and at very specific times. Ben copied down a list of ingredients. Once he had that, he went to the store room to pick them up.
Returning to his seat with an armful of ingredients, he immediately set to work on his potion.

Anthony was excited to be working on a potion. Sometimes they would just sit there and learn how it's made. He would take notes and pay attention but there was nothing like making the potion himself. He followed Ben to the storeroom and pulled out all the ingredients that were on the board. As soon as he returned to his desk he started working on the potion.
It was easy to make, but maybe too easy. However Anthony figured since this was the first class, perhaps the professor was being nice.

Beautifying potion? How boring was that! Jie looked at the instructions on the board. It seemed easy enough. He never understood how other people tended to find potions hard to master. You simply followed the instructions. It wasn't all that complicated.
He went up and retrieved his ingredients. Returning to his seat, he began chopping up his shrivelfig.
Jie looked over at his neighbor on his left (Julien). The Gryffindor seemed confident enough in his potion. He smiled. It was time to make things a bit more interesting. Waiting until Julien's attention was elsewhere, Jie quickly dropped in an entire shrivelfig into Julien's cauldron. Let's see what extra shrivelfig does to a beautifying potion, he thought.

Watching the rest, Sienna let out a large sigh and stood up. If this potion was going to take the whole class, she might as well start. She gathered the materials and sat down again. She followed everything as best she could, stopping to watch the young Slytherin ruin Julien's potion. There was something about this first year that she liked.
