Christian laughed. "What? You, a little fifth year turn me into something? If you tried that, I'm pretty sure it would just backfire." He paused. "On second thought, go ahead. Do it."
He looked at the crystal ball sitting on the table. Divination was always a fun class, even if it was a bit pointless.
Tapping the crystal ball, he turned back to Sienna. "Hey Sienna, you want me to read your fortune?"

Araloue’s smile didn’t dampen as she entered the divination room, but she did have to admit it was a very odd art… seeking unknown knowledge and attempting to foretell the future? While the subject of the class aroused her curiosity, she couldn’t help but believe her future should remain a mystery. She felt that was how life was supposed to be a secret, a puzzle, a great confusion one must experience to know. Divination only seemed to meddle with those principles, nevertheless she took a seat before the peace of crystal.

Smirking, Sienna just shrugged.
"You're just hoping I'll turn you into something that's better than you are now. Which is pretty much anything."
Sienna tapped the crystal ball that rested on the table. It became cloudy but disappeared within seconds.
"I already know my fortune. I get whatever I want."

Elliot nearly lost track of time as he sat and listened to the students' conversations. In fact, by the time he realized that he probably should start class, class was started fifteen minutes late. Assuming that no one would mind a shorter class, he jumped up suddenly and clapped his hands to get his students' attention.
"Okay that's enough of that. We probably should get to it now."
Elliot walked to the front of the room, grabbing an The Art of Gazing book off the nearest table.
"Divination. What exactly is Divination? THAT is what I'm going to tell...teach you."
He proceeded to pace around the room, talking faster and faster as he nervously turned the book over and over in his hands.
"In its most basic...loosest sense, divination is the ability to foresee the future. But that's too loose of a sense. I hate to make things complicated but there is more to it than that. I also hate to bog you all down with details but it needs to be done before we can get to the more...fun part of...this subject."
Elliot paused before he continued on.
"Divination can be broken up into three categories. The most imprecise is fortunetelling. Mr. Labrie, you clearly seem to be an expert on this as I heard you offering to tell other student's fortunes before class had begun. The second type uses the stars. We will not be going into this one in very much detail as I prefer to spend my nights sleeping. The final type is seeing. This is TRUE divination. And this is not usually something that anyone can control."
He paused again for the few students who were actually taking notes to finish writing.
"I see some have been taking notes. That is wise as this most likely will appear on an exam some time in the future. For those of you who did NOT take notes, you had best study hard and perfect your Divination. Perhaps you can SEE the exam ahead of time.
And now to the fun part. I placed before everyone a crystal ball and a book. This book."
Elliot dropped the book. He quickly reached down and snatched it back up.
"As I was saying, THIS book will be your guide to the subject. I want everyone to spend the remainder of the time gazing into their crystal balls and using their books for reference. By the end of class I want detailed accounts of everything you saw AND thought."
Elliot quickly returned to his seat in the corner.
"You may begin."

Post by Rowena Rumble on May 22, 2012 22:01:37 GMT -5
Rowena had been furiously trying to write down every word that the Professor had said. She went back and circled certain phrases as a reminder to do a bit of research on them later. If Professor Fitzgerald was not going to teach the details, then she was going to have to learn it on her own.
Her notes finished, she turned her attention to her crystal ball. She leaned in close, her nose barely an inch from its glass surface, and stared into it. Nothing. Not even her reflection. She sighed, her breath fogging up the side. Rowena quickly wiped it away with her sleeve. This was going to be a long class. She rested her head on one hand as she returned to staring at the ball.

Professor Fitzgerald had begun talking but Christian wasn't done with Sienna yet.
"You clearly no nothing about fortunes," he whispered to her. "You see." He tapped the crystal ball. "If you look hard enough you can see what I believe is a hippogriff. Sienna, you're going to get eaten by a hippo-"
He quickly looked up as he heard the professor say his name. Christian decided that it was time to pay attention. Well...pretend to pay attention.
Christian pulled out a piece of paper. Sliding it under his desk he quickly drew a rough drawing of a hippogriff eating a stick figure. He labeled the stick figure "Sienna"
He waited for the right moment. Professor Fitzgerald dropped the book and Christian crumpled up the drawing and tossed it at Sienna. He went back to paying attention.

The professor had started class so Sienna shifted her chair to face him. To Christian, she was paying attention and had no interest in him. But in reality, Sienna had no interest in either. She stared at a single point on the table. When Christian's voice reached her hear again, she looked at him with an angered look and rolled her eyes.
"Christian, you're seeing your own fortune, not min...."
As she tried to finish what she was saying, a piece of paper hit her right in the head. She straightened up and glared at Christian. Upon unwrinkling it, there was a terrible drawing of some sort of creature and a bunch of lines.
"Maybe you're parents should have sent you to art school instead of here."
She crumbled it back up again and tried to aim it at Christian. Just her luck, it flew past him and went straight to the professor.

Elliot had finished speaking and began walking around the room, watching his students begin to look into their crystal balls. There was a bit of speaking and some occasional bits of laughter but he was okay with that. A lot of students liked to discuss what they were seeing with each other. Elliott wanted to keep the class fun and if people wanted to laugh about seeing hippogriffs and flobberworms or whatever, then he wasn't going to put a stop to it.
"Miss Rumble. If you stare into it so intently, you are probably just going to fall asleep."
A sudden crumpled ball of paper hit him from the direction of Sienna. Elliot picked it up and unfolded it.
"That is a nice picture of a hippogriff, Miss Rays but I fail to see what this has to do with my class. Five points from Slytherin."

Why couldn't the thing she threw reach it's target for once? If only it hit Christian like she planned, they wouldn't have lost points. Christian just had to misbehave and push Sienna into doing something rash.
"Way to go Christian,"
She frowned and gave an apologetic look to the professor. Perhaps that paper hitting him actually knocked some sense into him. It seemed impossible, though, for the professor to actually be clear-thinking.
